The image at right (a Lissajous curve) is certainly mathematical. It exhibits Klein 4-group symmetry and is arguably aesthetically pleasing. Should this then be considered a work of mathematical art?

This instance was executed by means of standard function-graphing software. Anyone using this or equivalent software can execute an identical image. Would the answer to the above question be affected by the identity of the author? Is the format of the image (e.g.  digital print, paint on canvas, color, background) or display venue an important factor?

If this can indeed be an instance of mathematical art, would the art object be any one image instance, reside more abstractly in the experience of the artist, a property of the equations, or something else?
