Text Box: Bark: Red-brown to purple or gray-brown. Thin and scaly, loosely attached with large, coarse flakes. Older trees will develop furrows

Text Box: Twig: Relatively stout (for a spruce). Tan or orange-brown in coloration when young. Older twigs appear grayish-brown. Woody pegs bear new foliage

Text Box: Fruit and Flowers: Monoecious. Young cones are produced May-June and mature in autumn of first season (8-15 cm in length). Coloration is light brown. Cone scales are thin with wavy and jagged margins
