Twig:  often with corky ridges; stout, yellowish-brown; multiple small round terminal buds which may be slightly pubescent; small stipules are typically present

Fruit:  acorn 1 ½ inches long; half enclosed by highly warty, fringed cap; matures in one year in August to November
