Students wanted and needed!!!

Are you interested in physiology, physiological ecology, cell biology, molecular biology and/or just figuring out how things work?

If so, I am currently looking for student volunteers and/or BIO 403 students interested in participating in a variety of projects determining the mechanisms by which various insects tolerate/are harmed by exposure to low temperature.

One set of projects focuses on a phenomenon termed rapid cold hardening.  By contrast to the prolonged periods (weeks/months) of acclimation used in most studies of insect low temperature tolerance, rapid cold hardening induces changes within minutes that increase survival at low temperature and allow the organism the ability to remain behaviorally responsive at temperatures below unhardened animals.  We'd like to know how. Current projects include: importance of cell signaling pathways in rapid cold hardening, intergenerational effects of chilling, and interplay between low-temperature stress and other environmental stresses at the cellular level.
