In a collaborative effort with Dr. Scott McNaught's lab at CMU we are trying to determine patterns of fish movement between Lake Michigan and connected inland lakes. We are interested in quantifying the contribution of fish from inland lakes to the recruitment of yellow prech in Lake Michigan. It is unknown how the populations of the connected inland lakes influence the yellow perch population of three basins of Lake Michigan. We are using microsatellite loci to determine the dispersal rate between lakes, and population sizes in each of the lakes and basins.
This project was funded by the Michigan DNR.
